Foray schedule Fall 2020

The 2020 fall foray season is upon us, and the foray schedule has been finalized. This year’s schedule will be a bit different from previous years, but with everyone’s cooperation we expect to have a great season.

The season is starting later than normal as we have been developing COVID-19 protocols, and training a fantastic group of new foray volunteers. We have had a great response from members wishing to help and volunteer at forays, and this has helped make the fall season possible. The Board and our foray volunteers have developed a plan that will allow everyone to participate safely and with confidence.

This year’s forays are different

Due to COVID-19, we have made some changes to forays to make sure our members and volunteers stay safe and healthy:

  1. We’ve scheduled forays only for September so far. If all goes well at the September forays, we’ll add more in October
  2. Forays will be limited to 30 people, and all participants will need to register ahead of time on the MST website
  3. Participants will need to check in on their phones when they arrive at forays

Foray registration

Registration for each foray will open 1 week before the foray date at 12pm, except for the first two forays on September 12th and 13th. Since these are quite soon, registration for them will open on September 8th at 12pm.

We hope that this will allow members to be sure of their ability to attend, and give everyone a fair chance to register. If you are unable to attend after you have registered, please remember to cancel your registration so the space becomes available for other members.

Foray check-in

We have also developed a new online check-in procedure for attendees when they arrive at the foray site. Foray volunteers will be on site to assist you with this process if any help is required. The online check in process has been developed to limit contact of shared pens, paper sign-in form, etc. This will also help us with contact tracing if that becomes necessary, and emergency contacting if anyone becomes injured or lost.

The success of this year’s forays will depend on everyone’s cooperation and ability to follow mask and social distancing guidelines. A mask will be required for all group activities at the foray. You will not be able to participate in the orientation or mushroom identification portions of the foray unless you are wearing a mask. This year a mask will need to be a part of your foray kit along with your basket and whistle.

The schedule is available at https://www.myctor.org/forays/current and the forays are marked on the MST's event calendar. A foray locations map and information on how to prepare for forays is also available.
