New for 2022: Who can attend the Cain Foray?

The Cain Foray is an intermediate-level event which requires some knowledge about mycology and how to begin identifying species. In the past, new members and those who are new to species identification have found it difficult to participate in the Cain.

For 2022, participation at the 2022 Cain Foray is limited to members who are eligible to attend Introduction to Field Identification walks and Intermediate Field Identification forays.

If you haven't yet qualified for the Introduction to Field Identification level, there will be opportunities in late August and the first weekends of September for you to satisfy the requirements and register for the Cain Foray. A block of Cain Foray tickets will be held for members who qualify at that point.

See more about this change in the Who can Attend the Cain Foray? section of the registration page.

New for 2022: On-site accommodation charges paid separately

In previous years there was one single charge per person for on-site options at the Cain Foray, and this charge included accommodations.

This will be different in 2022: for on-site options, the MST now charges only a registration fee per person. Participants choosing an on-site option will pay for their accommodations directly to Lumina Resort when they arrive and check in on September 23rd. The MST has made this change so that members can benefit from the Ontario Staycation Tax Credit.

Off-site participants do not need to pay the resort.

See more about this change in the Cain Foray Prices and Accommodations sections of the registration page.

Cain Foray and COVID-19

The 2022 Cain Foray will operate normally as much as possible. If last-minute capacity limits or government restrictions are imposed and we have more participants than allowed, a limited number of full refunds will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis to participants who wish to cancel. If there aren't enough voluntary cancellations, registrations will be cancelled with a full refund on a latest-registration-first basis. If there are no last-minute capacity restrictions, the normal Cain Foray cancellation policy will apply.

Participants arriving with or developing COVID-19 symptoms during the event will be sent home to rest and recover. Please note that while the MST's board of directors strongly encourages all those who can be vaccinated to do so, we cannot guarantee the vaccination status of all Cain Foray participants or staff at Lumina Resort. All adult participants will be required to sign a waiver accepting that attendance is at their own risk.

Lumina Resort policy is that masking is required at all times in the indoor public areas of the resort, except while eating in the dining room.

See more about COVID-19 precautions at the Cain Foray in the Cain Foray and COVID-19 section of the registration page.
