This 3 week course will introduce the basics of mushroom identification for gilled mushrooms and is intended for people with some knowledge of mushrooms who would like to learn a more systematic approach to identification. It will focus on field identification based on macroscopic features. Various identification features will be discussed and the main genera will be described and illustrated with examples of specific mushrooms from each genus. Fresh specimens will also be used to illustrate features and practice identification. PLEASE NOTE: This is a general introduction to the identification of gilled mushrooms and does not specifically focus on edible species.
