Speaker: Renée Lebeuf, a well known presenter from Montreal, Quebec

Presentation: "Common Mycenas of the Eastern provinces"

Description: Renée will present the characteristics of this Genera, describe the main sections and present the most common species found in our area, with microscopic and macroscopic pictures. Her main goal is to demystify these small but beautiful species and encourage their study.

Speaker: Leonard Hutchison, Associate Professor, Lakehead University

Presentation: "Life Underground: the Story of Truffles and Truffle-Like Fungi"

Description: Dr. Hutchison’s presentation is on the hypogeous fungi more commonly known as truffles and false truffles. He will discuss the symbiotic relationship between hypogeous fungi and the roots of forest trees that forms the ectomycorrhizae and the role of the ectomycorrhizae in protecting forests.

Presentation: "EM and Bokashi Composting"

Description: Vera is an MST member and President of Healthy Earth. She has a long standing interest in bringing composting techniques to an urban environment.

Speaker: Britt Bunyard PhD

Description: Britt hold a PhD in molecular and cell biology. He is past Editor-in-Chief of NAMA’s journal McIlvainea and newsletter The Mycophile. He is now publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Fungi Magazine.

Speaker: Allison Walker, PhD student

Presentation: "Marine Fungi of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico"

Description: Allison began her study of mycology under Dr. David Malloch at the U of T. She now is a PhD student at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory where her special area of interest centres around marine ascomycota.

Speaker: Dr. Kathie Hodge, Associate Professor, Director of Dept. of Plant Pathology, Cornell University, Ithaca NY

Presentation: "Vegetable Wasps: Fungi that Kill Bugs"

Description: Kathie will be talking about mushrooms, moulds and morbid insects. She will show you pictures and talk lovingly about these hidden jewels. They are pretty awesome things including the noble genus Cordyceps, the grasshopper bane Metarhizium, and Roland Thaxter's early favourites, the Entomophthorales, which kill their hosts with subtle ballistosporic zeal! We'll take a tour through a whole variety of fungi that, up close, terrifying but beautiful. Join us for an informative and fun evening.

Description: Walter will be showing us some fleshy fungi not common in most of Ontario, as well as some that are of interest or may be overlooked.

Speaker: Michael Warnock, current MST Vice-President and owner of IDonsite, a mould sample analysis company.

Presentation: Mushrooms and Microscopes: Taking Your Identification Skills a Step Further

Description: Michael Warnock, Chairman of the Microscopy Committee, will discuss the basics of using a microscope to solve some of the common mushroom mysteries encountered in the MST. Although microscopes can seem intimidating, they are actually very simple instruments that are no more challenging to operate than many household appliances. Come out and enjoy a discussion (with pictures) of some of the small wonders that are collected on MST forays.
